BUILT DEMONSTRATION
An editable fractions mini-lesson with an answer key
Inspect a short fractions lesson, two practice levels, and checked answers. An example prepared for teacher review, using fictional classroom material and no student records.
The request
“Create a short introduction to equivalent fractions with easier practice, a stretch task, and an answer key.” This demonstration is original sample material for teacher review, not an adopted curriculum or a claim of classroom outcomes.

Equivalent fractions: a 20-minute starting lesson
- Learning goal
- Explain why multiplying the numerator and denominator by the same nonzero whole number preserves a fraction’s value.
- Explain · 5 minutes
- Start with 1/2. Multiply both parts by 2 to get 2/4, and by 3 to get 3/6. Use teacher-supplied fraction strips to show the same amount.
- Guided practice · 5 minutes
- Complete 2/3 = ?/6, then explain what changed in both the numerator and denominator.
- Independent practice · 7 minutes
- Choose Level A or B below. Ask students to show the multiplier, not only the answer.
- Exit check · 3 minutes
- Explain why 3/4 and 6/8 have the same value.
Two practice levels
Level A
1/2 = ?/4
2/3 = ?/6
3/5 = ?/10
Level B
3/4 = ?/12
5/6 = 20/?
Explain the error in 2/3 = 4/5.
Answer key
A: 2, 4, 6.
B: 9, 24.
Adding 2 to both parts does not preserve the value: 2/3 ≠ 4/5. Multiply both parts by the same factor instead.
Checks before classroom use
The arithmetic is checked. A teacher still needs to adapt the explanation, accessibility, prior knowledge, timing, and curriculum alignment. Send the unit outline, objectives, and preferred format—without student names or records—to scope a fuller resource pack.
